I’m working on a quilt for the SF Quilt Guild’s show next April. This is a challenge quilt. Here are the rules:
No rulers can be used except to square up the quilt on the outside edges. Any cutting tool can be used without using a ruler- cut freehand. Only solid fabrics can be used. Only piecing- not applique. Embellishments can be added to the pieced top. 20″ x 20″.
I asked my Facebook friends to suggest a name for this quilt. I liked “Deconstructed Dragon” the best. But it didn’t look much like a dragon to me, so I added an eye. Suddenly it looked like a dragon.
After sewing together the bottom right quarter of the quilt, I decided I didn’t like it. It looked too chopped up and didn’t flow like the rest of the quilt. So, I made a new section. Then I realized that the straight line of blue triangles was never going to curve around the fabric above it. I made a new curved strip of blue triangles.

Below is what it looked like when Mindy Berkowitz named it Deconstructed Dragon, i.e. before I added the eye.
